Reconstituting Snails

So, my children love snails! Gross I think, but who cares. On thursday, Kora needed to take a "bug" to school for bug day. She immediately said, "I wanna take a snail (wish you could hear how she says it!) and a roley poley." So of course I told Myah, cause she is the queen snail (and any other bug for that matter) catcher. But, alas Myah had no luck and had to go to school before the snail could be found. So it was then up to me to find a snail and maybe a roley poley bug. So Kora and I went outside to find one. But it had been dry and hot for a while and there were no "live" snails to be found. So I tried my hardest to find a snail and decided to water the front flower beds A LOT!!!! To try to coerce the snails to come out of hiding and be trapped for a bunch of 3 year olds to look at, poke, and play with. Still none could be found. I did, however find a dried up and crusted one attatched to our drain pipe on the side of our house. I grabbed it and it fell, crusted and hard, to the ground below. Upon which, Kora immediately said "It's dead!" We went back inside to wait and hope for snails to come out so we could capture them. After about 15 minutes, we went back outside and to our dismay, we could not find any.....however, I looked where I had dropped the "dead" snail and noticed it was climbing up the side of our front stairs. It had come back from the dead! So I thought..."just add water and they live?" I had to try it out again. This was too cool to be true. So I grabbed another crusted snail off of the drain pipe (there are a plethera of them you know!) and put it in a jar with some water on the bottom. I told Kora that we would bring it back to life. I sort of didn't think it would work again, but I tried for her. She was so excited! Sure enough, a few minutes later, we saw the inside of the snail plumping up. Then one antennae and then another and finally moving all over the jar and trying to escape. It is true you can reconstitute snails. All you need is a little water, a "dead" snail, a jar, and a few minutes and presto you have a plump, juicy, walking around, fully functioning snail.

Ok. This is how Kora says Snail. First you have to say your S like you are blowing your nose then immediately say nail kind of like "nao" and there you have it. It is fun. Try saying it outloud!!!
